Scott practiced family law in Vancouver, Washington for over 40 years. He is a past member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and was its first co-recipient of the Outstanding Lawyer of the Year award. He was an adjunct professor of community property law at Willamette Law School and Law of Lewis and Clark College—and has written materials for and spoken at numerous continuing legal education programs. He is a past chair of the Washington State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee and a recipient of that Section's Outstanding Lawyer of the Year award and Outstanding Professional of the Year award. He is a past President of the Clark County Bar Association, a former Chairperson of the Family Law Section, and a recipient of the Ken Weber Community Service award and Lifetime Achievement award. He has also been designated as a Super Lawyer by Washington Law and Politics for many years. While remaining retired from practicing family law, Scott continues his independent mediation practice through Scott Horenstein Law, LLC.  

Beyond his legal community contributions, Scott has also had a lifetime of involvement in Vancouver civic affairs. He has been involved in the Vancouver Public Schools levy efforts since his high school days, having chaired its levy committee. He also co-founded and is a board member of the Hudson’s Bay High School Foundation. In 2004 Scott was named Clark County Washington’s First Citizen. For fun, Scott enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, exercising, gardening, woodworking and working on stained glass.
