It's 'divorce season,' but kids can be shielded by parents, legal system
Shawn Menashe of Portland law firm Gevurtz Menashe remembers being skeptical when his dad, founding shareholder
Albert Menashe, said January brings a spike in couples looking to divorce after holding things together through the holidays.
But Shawn, who now manages the firm, soon saw the evidence. The firm has a 25 percent to 30 percent spike in new client calls and files being opened every January. He says the wave starts almost the day the office re-opens after the holidays, and the effect has been consistent for more than 20 years.
